Dental Crowns & Teeth Veneers Melbourne

When you are thinking about getting dental veneers in Melbourne, cost is probably the major weight upon your mind. The main reasons people tend to put off getting very necessary dental treatments they need include:

  • Worry about the cost
  • Fear that treatment will be painful
  • Embarrassment about their condition

What you'll notice about each of these items is they all stem from fear, and fear is not something you should let rule your life. We can't speak for all dentists, but what we can tell you without hesitation is that at Bond Street Dental you have nothing at all to fear.

Nothing to fear, everything to gain

Our prices on veneers in Melbourne are very reasonable, and we go out of our way to make treatments for all our patients as affordable as possible. We can also assure you that fitting veneers is not a painful procedure.

As for the embarrassment factor, that can be a difficult one to get past, but bear in mind all our staff are medical professionals who sincerely want to help. They are not sitting in judgement of you.

Bond Street Dental is a progressive clinic offering the best veneers in Melbourne at amazingly low prices. The quality, however, is beyond any doubt. So for porcelain veneers in Melbourne, Bond Street Dental is definitely the place to go.

About our porcelain veneers

The veneers we use are made from porcelain wafers with a thickness measured in microns. The result is a superior quality veneer that is light in weight, high in strength, and practically undetectable from natural enamel.

Fitting a veneer is a two-step process. The teeth may need some additional shaping or other work before they are ready for veneers. This can vary from one individual to another.

Once the tooth surface is perfectly prepared, the veneer can be fitted. First, the original tooth surface has to be cleaned immaculately. This prevents any bacteria or other substances from becoming trapped behind the veneer.

Next the veneer is applied by using an extra strong adhesive to bond the veneer to the enamel surface of the tooth.

Are porcelain veneers right for your condition?

As you can probably figure out for yourself, veneers are not the perfect solution for everyone. The teeth they are being applied to must be reasonably aligned, and not too worn down or damaged, or there won't be enough surface to apply them to. They can be used to correct minor imperfections such as:

  • Minor alignment problems
  • Covering unsightly gaps between teeth
  • Giving worn down teeth a more uniform size
  • Hiding stains and signs of ageing
  • Hiding evidence of fillings
  • Colour correction

Porcelain veneers are not the only type of dental veneers available in Melbourne. It is also possible to get composite resin veneers. However it is strongly recommended to get porcelain veneers because they have many advantages.

Why porcelain veneers are a better choice

The difference in price between composite resin and porcelain is not significant enough to make composite resin a better choice. Not only do composite resin veneers have around half the typical lifespan of porcelain veneers, they also don't clean up as well, and are more likely to stain.

Weighed and measured against one another, while composite resin is cheaper than porcelain, it ought to be. Porcelain is the better value option overall.

Porcelain is stronger, holds its whiteness better, and lasts a longer time. Basically the point is if you are using veneers for cosmetic reasons, it hardly makes sense to choose the cheaper option, because the cosmetic result is so superior with porcelain.

The resin veneers are more porous than porcelain, and even more porous than natural teeth. They absorb water due to this porosity, which makes it difficult to clean them.

Porcelain veneers are much easier to maintain, being easy to clean and durable, so they will normally last at least a decade and sometimes longer before needing any replacement.

What veneers do

The cosmetic benefits of veneers are fairly obvious, and the effects are instantly noticeable. As the name implies, veneers are effective in hiding what they have been placed in front of.

Teeth that are slightly crooked, oddly shaped, unevenly worn down, discoloured or stained, will be made to look normal behind a wall of gleaming and perfectly shaped dental veneers.

What are crowns and veneers?

Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown or “cap” is a restoration that covers, or “caps”, a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of a tooth.

Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is a thin, tooth-coloured porcelain shell that is carefully crafted and bonded over your existing tooth or teeth to improve their look.

Porcelain veneers can be a great way to enhance your smile! With one or six veneers, we will have you smiling again. Porcelain veneers are very strong, look and feel like a natural tooth and will not stain.

Porcelain crowns and bridges can transform a patient’s smile, so they are an important part of the cosmetic dentistry services provided at the Bond Street Dental Clinic. So, if you wish to regain your beautiful smile, you could be taking advantage of the many treatments at Bond Street Dental.

We do need to mention that cosmetic dentistry is not the only branch of dental services we provide. Our team consists of experienced dental surgeons, dentists and dental hygienists, which enables us to provide general dentistry and preventative dentistry in addition to cosmetic dentistry treatments. The Porcelain Dental Restoration Solutions at Bond Street Dental

When you have visited the dentist for fillings or dental crowns in the past, you have undoubtedly heard the term dental porcelain. Dental porcelain is a special material used by dentists for the creation of biocompatible dental restorations; this includes fillings, crowns, bridges and veneers. To learn more about these dental restoration and how they improve your dental health, please read the information provided by the Bond Street Dental Clinic below.

The Porcelain Crown

A dental crown is a specific type of dental restoration. The dental crown resembles a cap, which completely covers the outer surface of the tooth. Since this dental restoration encircles the entire tooth, this type of dental restoration is commonly used the treat large cavities and strengthen the overall structure of the tooth.

Before the dentist can apply a crown to one of your natural teeth, the dentist must prepare the tooth; this includes removing some bits of the natural tooth permanently. Since some of the natural tooth is removed, a dentist will only decide to use a dental crown when the structure of the tooth is in danger of failing, or when a cavity threatens the overall health of your teeth.

The Porcelain Bridge

The porcelain bridge is a larger dental restoration that can bridge the gap between two natural teeth. It is used when a patient has several teeth missing, but still has natural teeth that could support the porcelain bridge.

There are many types of bridges and the porcelain bridge is just one of many options that will be available to you. Most bridges are prepared by the dentist and the dental technician beforehand, but there are some types of bridges that can be created in the mouth of the patient directly.

To add the bridge to the mouth and attach it to the natural teeth, the natural teeth must be prepared by your dentist as well. However, this is where dentists are faced with an extra challenge, because each end of the bridge must be attached simultaneously to the natural teeth when a fixed-fixed bridge is attached. Therefore, the so-called “taper” of the teeth carrying the bridge must match perfectly.

As mentioned before, there are different types of bridges. To help you get more familiar with the various types of bridges available, we have created a short summary of bridges that are still used in dentistry today.

The Fixed-Fixed Bridge

A fixed-fixed bridge is attached to the natural teeth on both sides of the bridge. With this type of bridge, the dentist needs to prepare the natural teeth perfectly, since there is only one way to attach the bridge to the natural teeth. To make them match, the dentist will prepare your natural teeth before the bridge is attached.

The Cantilever Bridge

Even though this type of bridge is not as commonly used anymore, since the bridge cannot withstand heavier biting forces as well as other bridge types, it is still a bridge type used in dentistry today. For the cantilever bridge, only one side of the bridge is attached to a natural tooth.

The Fixed-Moveable Bridge

A fixed-moveable bridge is a bridge with two attachable parts. One part is described as the major retainer, which is attached to the retainer on one side of the gap. The second is described as the minor retainer, which is attached to a moveable joint at the other end of the gap.

The fixed-movable bridge has some advantages for patients, since the movable part can cope with angulation differences in the abutment teeth, which allows for easier insertion.

The Maryland Bridge

A Maryland Bridge is not considered as a conventional bridge and is referred to as the adhesive bridge. During a Maryland Bridge procedure, the bridge is attached to the abutment teeth with wings on the side of the pontic (the replacement tooth); this means that there is minimal damage to teeth when the bridge is attached.

The Maryland Bridge is the preferred bridge for the front of the mouth, but only if the natural teeth of the patient are healthy and strong enough; this also means that the natural teeth can have no major fillings or crowns. Even though this bridge is not as strong as a conventional bridge, they are less damaging for any natural teeth remaining in the mouth of the patient.

The Porcelain Veneer

Porcelain veneers are often confused with porcelain crowns, because their functions are quite similar. Still, the porcelain veneer is quite different from the crown, since it does not cover the entire surface of the tooth. Instead, it only covers the part of the tooth that is visible when you smile – the front surface.

Patients can obtain porcelain veneers for many reasons. A common reason to choose a porcelain veneer is to improve the shape or colour of a tooth. Porcelain veneers are also an option to fill larger gaps between the teeth; for example, when the patient does not want orthodontics.

Even though the porcelain veneer is quite strong, the porcelain crown is stronger when it comes down to resisting bite and chewing forces. Therefore, a dentist will be more inclined to choose a crown for teeth in the back of the mouth and veneers for the teeth in the front.

Can I Come to Bond Street Dental for Dental Restorations?

Several dentists and oral surgeons at the Bond Street Dental Clinic are specialised in oral rehabilitation; this means that patients can obtain all the treatments that were described above.

In addition to conventional treatments such as porcelain crowns and veneers, patients can also visit the Bond Street Dental Clinic for dental implants and All-On-4 dental implants. If you are not yet familiar with All-On-4 dental implants, we urge you to read the dedicated information pages on our website or attend one of the free information evenings that are organised by our clinic on a regular basis. To ensure you have a seat at one of these information evenings, register your interest on the website and reserve your seats for a future seminar. When an information evening becomes available, our friendly team of receptionists will contact you as soon as possible.

There are many options for oral rehabilitation nowadays and porcelain crowns and veneers are certainly a part of that. These oral rehabilitation treatments can be obtained for different reasons, because these treatments can be obtained to strengthen the teeth as well as to transform the patient’s smile. To determine if dental crowns and veneers could be a good treatment for your dental problems, we recommend making an appointment with one of the dentists at the Bond Street Dental Clinic. During an appointment, the dentist can determine the dental problems the patient is facing and if crowns and veneers could provide a solution.

When you have an appointment with one of our dentists or oral surgeons, you can also ask about other oral rehabilitation solutions that could be a possibility for you. Dental treatments are constantly evolving, so the limited amount of treatments available several years ago have certainly changed and expanded. Therefore, it is so important to discuss your treatment with your dentist, because many patients are only aware of a limited amount of treatments they could take advantage of.
