Bond Street Dental provides all kinds of dental implants from single tooth replacements through to zygoma implants and, of course, our signature protocol, the All-On-4® implant procedure. The All-On-4® is used for patients who have suffered the loss of many teeth, even an entire upper or lower arch of teeth, and/or have suffered bone loss in the jaw.
We’ve listed some frequently asked questions from actual patients, to give you a better understanding of what the All-On-4® protocol is, and what to expect.
When is All-On-4® dental implants suitable for me?
Patients who opt for the All-On-4® dental implants are usually not a good candidate for traditional dental implant methods. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but the most common one is the loss of bone in the jaw. If you have had advice that you might not be able to try the usual dental implant options, or you have reason to believe you might be a good candidate for the All-On-4® treatment, we urge you to make an appointment with Bond Street Dental or attend one of our free information evenings on the subject.
How long does the treatment take?
Amazingly, our All-On-4® dental implants are a lot less time-consuming than most traditional dental implants. In other protocols, when you have suffered bone loss, it may take months for bone grafting to achieve the optimal environment for dental implants. However, the All-On-4® technique sweeps all that time and inconvenience away. Our patients can receive their replacement teeth in only one to three days. Not only does the All-On-4® protocol save a lot of time, but it can be more cost-effective as well, since there is no longer a need for expensive bone grafting treatments.
Could I be a good candidate for the All-On-4® treatment?
There are a number of indicators that can tell if you could be considered for this particular treatment.
The All-On-4® dental implants can be used for patients who have a significant amount of bone loss in the jaw. It can also be implemented on both the upper and the lower jaw, in order to support immediate fixed replacement teeth.
All-On-4® implants also come with an additional benefit for the patient: because a total of only four implants are used, it is a lot easier to maintain and clean the teeth. Just like with normal dental implants, or even people with their own, natural teeth, you will still have to visit your dental hygienist from time to time. We recommend regular visits to the dental hygienist.
Patients who want to know more about the All-On-4® dental implants, or who wish to know if they are a good candidate for the treatment, can also attend one of our free information evenings. You will have the opportunity to speak to one of the top oral surgeons in the country, Dr Larry Benge. Patients can also find out more about the protocol itself and how the procedure is conducted. If you would like to attend one of our free information evenings, please fill in the registration form on that page.
What Happens During The Surgery?
When you come in for surgery, the oral surgeon will take some impressions of your teeth to work out the correct placement of the four implants. The procedure itself is usually done under local anaesthetic, which is considerably less risky for the patient. However, some cases require sedation or general anaesthetic, a topic that you can discuss with your oral surgeon before the procedure takes place.
What happens during the ‘try-in’?
The second day of the All-On-4® treatment is used for what we call the ‘try-in’. During this time, your new teeth will be set in wax and you’ll be invited to go about everyday life with your new implants, testing comfort and placement. The ‘try-in’ is when we make any necessary adjustments to the position of the teeth and the colour, as we aim to make the teeth look as natural as possible and function as your normal teeth would. The ‘try-in’ is when you, the patient, get a better idea of what the end result will look like. It’s also a time where you can discuss any questions or concerns about your implants with the oral surgeon or dentist.
When are my new teeth being inserted?
Teeth insertion happens on the third day. During this procedure, your new teeth will be permanently fixed to the dental implants placed on the first day and, just like that, you have a beautiful mouthful of teeth. All that’s left to do is smile!
