FAQs

What is General Dentistry?

General dentistry encompasses the primary care services necessary to support long-term oral health. This includes routine examinations, restorative fillings, custom mouthguards, fissure sealants, root canal therapy, and wisdom teeth extractions.

At Bond St, we focus on identifying and addressing the underlying factors contributing to your dental concerns. Our clinical team develops comprehensive treatment plans designed to support your oral health and reduce the risk of future complications, helping you maintain a functional and healthy smile.

What General Dentistry Services Are at Bond Street Dental?

At Bond St, our modern facilities provide a comprehensive range of dental care, including general and cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, crowns, and oral surgery.

Our experienced team of dentists and oral health therapists is committed to providing high-quality clinical care. By focusing on precision and patient comfort, we ensure that your oral health is managed to a professional standard.

What Are Tooth-Coloured Fillings?

Tooth-coloured fillings offer a discreet alternative to traditional amalgam restorations. These fillings are designed to closely match the natural shade of your enamel, providing a cohesive appearance that blends with your smile.

In addition to their aesthetic benefits, the composite and porcelain materials used are selected for their durability and strength. These restorations help to preserve the structure of the tooth while providing a natural-looking finish.

What Are CEREC Porcelain Teeth?

Historically, dental restorations often utilized silver-coloured materials. Today, modern technology allows for the use of tooth-coloured materials designed to integrate more discreetly with your natural teeth.

At Bond St, we utilise CEREC technology to create porcelain restorations. Using digital scanning and on-site milling, this process allows our clinicians to design and fit custom-made porcelain fillings. These restorations are engineered for precision and durability, offering a natural-looking finish. For many patients, we can provide this restorative treatment within a single appointment.

What Are Wisdom Teeth & Why May They Be Removed?

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last teeth to emerge. In many cases, there is insufficient space in the dental arch for these teeth to erupt fully, which may lead to them becoming “impacted.” This occurs when the tooth is prevented from breaking through the gum by bone, soft tissue, or an adjacent tooth.

At Bond St, we provide comprehensive consultations to monitor the development of wisdom teeth. This may include digital imaging or X-rays, where clinically indicated, to assess the position of the teeth and their potential effect on your oral health.

If a wisdom tooth requires extraction, our experienced clinical team will discuss the most appropriate treatment options with you, including the use of sedation or anaesthesia to support your comfort during the procedure.

What is Preventative Dentistry?

The goal of preventive dentistry is to support the long-term health of your teeth and gums, helping to reduce the risk of decay and periodontal disease. In addition to a comprehensive examination by your dentist, preventive care includes regular professional cleaning with an oral health therapist or hygienist. These appointments allow our team to monitor your gum health and provide the clinical care necessary to maintain a healthy, functional smile.

What Snoring (Sleep Apnoea) Solutions Are Offered?

Snoring can significantly impact sleep quality and overall well-being. At Bond St, we offer clinical assessments to determine if a custom-fitted oral appliance may be suitable for managing snoring or mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).

These mandibular advancement splints are designed to hold the lower jaw forward during sleep, helping to maintain an open airway. This can reduce the vibration of soft tissues that causes snoring and support consistent breathing patterns.

Important: A formal diagnosis of Sleep Apnoea must be made by a sleep physician following a sleep study. Our clinical team works in conjunction with medical professionals to provide oral appliance therapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Persistent sensitivity to temperature, discomfort when biting, or swelling around a tooth can indicate that the internal pulp is affected. Root canal therapy involves treating the pulp at the centre of the tooth—which contains the nerves and blood vessels—as well as the tissues surrounding the root.

When the pulp is damaged or infected, it is typically unable to repair itself. If left unaddressed, the infection can cause significant discomfort and may eventually lead to the loss of the tooth.

At Bond St, root canal therapy is performed by our experienced clinical team at our South Yarra practice. We focus on providing precise treatment to resolve the infection and help you retain your natural tooth.

What is Teeth Grinding & How May It Be Managed?

Bruxism refers to the involuntary grinding or clenching of teeth, often occurring during sleep. Because these actions fall outside the jaw’s normal function, they are classified as ‘para-functional’ habits.

Many people are unaware they grind their teeth, as it frequently occurs subconsciously. If left unmanaged, bruxism can lead to:

  • Dental wear: Including chipped, fractured, or flattened teeth.
  • Localized discomfort: Such as tooth sensitivity or jaw joint pain.

  • Muscle tension: Including headaches and tightness in the temples, face, or neck.

One common management strategy is the use of a custom-fitted occlusal splint (night guard). This appliance is designed to protect the teeth from wear and reduce the strain on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles. To determine the most appropriate management plan for your needs, contact our team to arrange a comprehensive clinical assessment.
