FAQs
What is Microneedling and How Does It Work?
Microneedling is a regulated procedure that uses sterile, fine needles to induce controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This controlled process is performed by a trained practitioner and is designed to support the skin’s natural renewal process. By stimulating the underlying structure of the skin, the procedure helps manage concerns such as texture irregularities, scarring, and visible signs of ageing.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
The Microneedling procedure typically lasts 30–60 minutes.
Is Microneedling Painful?
The procedure is performed with the aim of achieving patient comfort. The controlled use of fine needles is monitored by your practitioner.
What is the Required Pre-Care Before Treatment?
Detailed pre-care is required to ensure the best possible outcome and reduce the risk of side effects or complications. Instructions include discontinuing the use of certain active ingredients (such as Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and Hydroquinone) at least 14 days prior. You must also avoid sun exposure, tanning beds , and certain blood-thinning supplements (e.g., aspirin, fish oil) 48 hours prior to treatment.
Is There Any Downtime After Microneedling?
While the procedure is considered minimally invasive, dedicated post-procedure care is essential for supporting recovery. The skin may experience temporary redness or sensitivity immediately following the treatment.
When Is Microneedling Not Suitable?
Microneedling is not suitable for individuals with active acne, open wounds, eczema, psoriasis, or skin infections in the treatment area. It is also not suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions, which must be discussed with your practitioner.
Can I Have Microneedling if I Get Cold Sores?
If you have a history of cold sores (HSV-1), especially if the treatment area is around the mouth, you must notify your practitioner. Prophylactic antivirals may be needed and can be provided to you over the counter at your local pharmacy.
