Single tooth missing

If you have a single missing tooth, or have a tooth that is irreparably compromised, one of the best permanent replacements is a dental implant in conjunction with a porcelain (ceramic) crown. The dental implant replaces the function of the tooth root and transmits the chewing force from the tooth crown to the jaw bone. This natural force keeps the jaw bone vital so that it does not recede. However, a new tooth is not only intended to fulfill natural function it should also be indistinguishable in appearance from the neighbouring teeth, they also feel like them. The implant, crown and gums provide aesthetic harmony.

Advantages of a single tooth implant

  • Replacement of the tooth without damaging or grinding the neighbouring teeth
  • In some cases can be performed as an immediate whereby the tooth is extracted and the implant is placed at the same time
  • The implant and temporary tooth can be in many cases placed at one visit

Benefits of implant treatment

  • Improved aesthetics
  • Natural appearance and feeling
  • A permanent solution may restore confidence and improve function

Treatment procedure

Example: The course of treatment described below is one of several options available. Dr Benge will advise you on the best solution for you depending on your individual situation.

First appointment: Thorough medical and dental examination is performed including diagnostic radiographs to determine if a dental implant is the best solution for you. A treatment plan is discussed with you including all your options and associated fees.

Second appointment: Placing the implant. With local anesthetic the implant is placed with careful preparation and execution. Where required and when possible some form of temporary tooth is provided.

Third appointment: Once the implant has successfully bonded with the bone, impressions are taken of the implant position to make the final crown. The ceramist will also meet with you to take a record of your aesthetic needs, colour and shape of the new tooth.

Fourth appointment: The final step is the attachment of the final tooth. Caring for the implant crown involves good oral hygiene, including home care and regular dental check-ups.
