In order to prevent bone loss and further movement of the teeth and jaw, a gap involving several teeth should be closed rapidly. The number of implants needed will depend on a case by case basis. A major advantage of implant borne bridges is that healthy neighbouring teeth do not have to be ground. Aesthetically, implant borne bridges are a good option as they end optimally at the gums in most cases.

Example: The course of treatment described below is one of several options available. Dr Benge will advise you on the best solution for you depending on your individual situation.
First appointment: Diagnosis and pre-treatment planning. Thorough medical and dental examination is performed including diagnostic radiographs, to determine if a dental implant is the best solution for you. A treatment plan is discussed with you including all your options and associated fees.
Second appointment: Placing the implants. With local anesthetic the implants are placed with careful preparation and execution. Where required and when possible some form of temporary restoration is provided.
Third appointment: Once the implants have successfully bonded with the bone, impressions are taken of the implant position to make the final bridge. The ceramist will also meet with you to take a record of your aesthetic needs.
Fourth appointment: The final step is the attachment of the final bridge. The replacement teeth are connected to each other, and the bridge is fitted in one piece over two or more implants. Caring for the implant bridge involves good oral hygiene, including home care and regular dental check-ups.
