When all teeth are missing or need to be replaced, a fixed bridge anchored to dental implants is one of the best permanent solutions.
Often with time with a removable denture, there is a deterioration of fit and become unstable. This is due to bone resorbtion that continues throughout life, and is often not explained which can lead to inability or difficulty in wearing dentures later in life due to the often resorbed bony ridges that dentures sit on.
Benefits of dental implants;
- Can eliminate the need for dentures
- May have teeth fixed (not removable) as long as aesthetic and functional requirements are met
- In some cases can be immediate whereby the teeth are extracted, implants placed and loaded with teeth in the same visit
- Restores function
- Implants may not be needed for every tooth
Course of treatment
Example: A typical tooth implant procedure for a full set replacement normally involves approximately 4 visits. Dr Benge will advise you on the best solution for you based on your specific needs. In most cases a new set of permanently fixed implant supported teeth can be inserted within 3 days of implant placement.
First appointment: Diagnosis and pre-treatment planning. Medical and dental evaluation, diagnostic radiographs, photographs and impressions are taken.
Second appointment: The jaw is prepared for the installation of the implants and impressions are taken for the next stage. This procedure is most commonly performed under local anaesthetic but can also be performed under sedation or if preferred a general anaesthetic.
Third appointment: The teeth are set in wax and tried in your mouth within 24-48 hours following implant placement. Any necessary adjustments are made at this stage. You get to see what your new teeth look like before we finish.
Fourth appointment: Your new fixed replacement teeth are inserted.
